So we live in a harsh world where you need money, or well you basically die. Well I am not any where close to dying at the moment, but I do need to worry about bills more and more in life. It would be nice if I could make some money with the stuff I do here, since I been doing it a long time and I think I am fairly good at it, plus I spend a ton of time on doing it. That said, I do still plan on finishing old games, and still plan on making games for free, no matter what. It is just I been thinking of stuff on the side, that would help me, you know not die and hopefully not get some really lame job that takes all my time hehe.
So here are some thoughts I had, for making money(that anyone reading this would actually care about)…
- So not directly related to making games, but semi related is I had thought about writing a bunch of naughty, transformation related stories, then like selling them on amazon or something. Basically that sort of business model works by just making a lot of cheap short stories. The idea being you might not make much per any given story but over time you can make a lot of them, and slowly it adds up to something.
I kind of like that since I could write stories that don’t make a great game, as a story to sell instead and it also wouldn’t interrupt me working on games on the side either. It doesn’t really take away from what I am doing now, just adding a new thing. The downside is I just never did anything like that before and it is new to me, and transformation stuff might be a little niche(though maybe that is fine even if it is?). Though if you look at places like amazon there are tons of books like that, so there has to be some market right?
- I could make a really big game that I charge for or something(or crowd source it?). I know exactly what sort of stuff people would like and I have a ton of experience, so making a game people would enjoy shouldn’t be an issue. I do worry a little that an entirely text based game might not have a huge fan base if you have to pay for it. Since these days entirely text based game are not super popular, except for like the games I usually make, which are free. So why pay for stuff you can get free?(I do get the irony, that making tons of free games, also makes it harder to make money with games).
Well the obvious answer to that, is that it needs to go to the next level. This is something I also been considering, since making a really big game feels like it would be a nice challenge. Though it makes me nervous since it would be very time consuming(even making free ones takes a lot of time), and there isn’t much guarantee there is much of a market for it. However, it is something I know I can do.
2B. I was also just considering that I could collaborate with someone. Since that opens other possibilities, since a group can do more than a single person can. With some collaboration, then it is possible to make a more complex game with graphics and stuff too. The question is with who though? I have had some luck with collaboration but nothing ever involving money.
- I think I mentioned this before too, that I been thinking of writing a book. It isn’t really related to making games here, but it is still writing related so I mention it. I kind of want to write a book too and I worked on a couple(even did an entire draft for one). Though that is a more long per process, so even if it eventually works out, not sure it will helps with money in the more short term(as in writing, publishing, selling, then getting the money for a book could take years).
Anyway, those are just thoughts I have been having.
