Getting distracted is good some times

So some times I get distracted and I don’t get much done in moving forward on whatever game project I am working on. I do feel like I would get more games done a lot faster if I could avoid getting distracted some times.

You could definitely say getting distracted is a bad thing because of that, though there is some positives as well. When I get distracted it is usually because I am writing stuff for some other random game and some times even just writing random sex scenes and stuff. Or I am thinking about random story ideas. So these type of distractions can be considered practice, and improve my skills and writing and making games.

Of course I do some times get distracted by completely pointless stuff, such as life is at times. Though at least some of the time the distractions are still useful. Even if no one will ever see the 100’s of partial games I worked on, it is still good practice for the stuff I do release.

On a related note. I have recently considered if it would be interesting to make a dream based game, where I just use all these random scenes for the dreams, since dreams can be pretty random and weird.

Kinky games

So the big game I am currently working on will have some sex, but it has a lot less than I normally have in many of my games. Which is a lot for many of them, since they are super naughty. I kind of wonder how much of an impact having less sex in the game will have, though I kind of feel that having a lot more options to explore doing girly choices and also having more options to control what your character does will make it a fun game even if there is a less sex. And also the sex in it will hopefully have more of an impact, because you have to wait and make connections with other characters instead of just sexing up everyone. Well at least those are my thoughts at the moment, will see how things go. I actually had to resist a little to stop myself from making a super slutty path through the game. Though that might still be an option in the end, I wanted to make the game good enough that you can still have fun without taking the slut path.

Release plan

So I was thinking I might release the game I am currently working on before it is finished, so I can get feedback and stuff on it. Currently I am working on day 4, so maybe I will finish up to day 6 then release it. I actually planned out this game really well from the start, so I know the exact length. It goes to day 14. So that would be a little less than the half way point of the game.

Just going by file size, Bully of Greenfield High, is a 111kb twine file while for Kawaii day 1-3(and a bit of day 4) is 309kb. So at the current rate, I think up to day 6 will be around 5 time longer than Bully of Greenfield High(just estimate based off file size). So that would be a decent amount of content.

Well that is just a rough estimate, since some days involve a lot more stuff than others. I also plan to add more stuff to each day later on, though my main goal is to have the main story go all the way to the end and not get too distracted with side stuff at the start. Because making it to the end can be difficult if you have to many side stories. So I want to get all the way to the end before going to far off the tracks with adding side content. I also learned my lesson from past games, and every day of the game is it’s own twine file, so I can keep everything organized.

Spam

So hopefully this is the last update on this topic. It seems without registering spam is a little higher than before, however it is at a reasonable level. I keep adding words to the blacklist and hopefully it will keep reducing as well.

Comments

Okay, I am going to try removing the requirement to register to make comments, but leave the blacklisted words to hopefully block the spam posts. Some people said there was some issue with registering. I will try to work that out if I am still getting spammed but for now, I will try to leave comments open to everyone.

When to release game?

I been wondering how long I should wait to release a game. Ideally I want to release a game when it is complete, though for games that make take awhile, it could be a long time before I release if it I do that. Which means I am not releasing stuff very often. So I am thinking of releasing my next game soon, before I finish it but not sure when. I do plan to stick with updating the same game and not dropping it though.

Trying something new

I am not sure how many people know this but some times when people are trying to motivate themselves to do something it can be really hard. It could be exercising, or studying or in my case getting work done on a game. The reason why is because the human brain is all messed up because we are wired for living lives that we simply don’t live anymore in the modern world. So regardless of whatever you plan or want to do, you need to factor in your subconscious mind having other thoughts and getting in the way. This is what causes things like procrastination or writer’s block.

So people who know about this sort of thing knows that once you get started doing something, it is a lot easier to keep doing whatever you are doing. The hard part is getting started because your subconscious mind will come up with all sort of excuses to distract you. So your brain thinks something like, “I don’t want to wash the dishes that is too much work, I will just watch youtube instead.” However, if you stand in front of the sink and wash two dishes, then your brain thinks “Well I am already here washing the dishes, might as well finish.” So a common way to trick yourself into doing stuff when your subconscious is being a pain is to make a very small goal for yourself then once you are doing it, you just keep on doing it.

Anyway, I have known all this for a long time and I do that some times to help me get stuff done because I procrastinate on a lot of things and always have. However, I notice it doesn’t work as well on games some times. If I say, I want to just write one or two scenes I still feel unmotivated at times and can’t start. However, I was thinking about this today and then I realized, that one of the reasons why I subconsciously am resisting doing the work, might be because in some games I have a lot of different paths, so deciding which path to work on at any given time is ‘hard’ to my subconscious mind.

So that gave me a new idea on how to get motivated. And this seems kind of silly but I tried it and it did work(will have to try it in the future to see if it continues to work). This is what I did though. I numbered all the branches and then I just rolled a die to determine which I was going to work on. Because I am rolling dice to decide, it completely remove any choice involved in which branch I am going to work on. In doing that my brain isn’t struggling with the ‘hard’ choice to deciding, and removes that obstacle to getting things done. It sounds silly but when you are trying to trick your subconscious to stop being lazy stuff like that really works.

Busy day

Today has been kind of busy, and I couldn’t get too much stuff done as far as writing. Though hopefully I can get a bunch of stuff done tomorrow. The spam really does seem to be mostly stopped now too which is nice.

So much Spam

After I deleted all the comments, I saw I was getting like 5-10 spam comments per hour. I am trying to fix it, so I changed some settings. Now you have to register to be able to post and I put in some blacklisted words that normal people are unlikely to ever say, that will get the post held to be check if you post it. Registering might be annoying but that is how much of a pain the spam comments are. I did change it so that posts are automatically posted now, so you no longer have to wait for me to approve it anymore though.
