Hmm

I am still thinking about the themes for the games, right now I am leaning toward using all the ones I listed earlier, which was more than I planned. I am wondering if I should use all of them in each short story, or maybe just focus on a couple for each story. The problem with using all of them in each story, is that it would give a ton of options and the short stories would go all over the place. If I focus on just a couple at a time though, the stories can focus more in on those themes.

The themes are important for the game, because the original Arabian nights have a lot of themes, and I am not really using any of those stories so I want a similar sort of themes used. But also since the main element of the game is based on how you tell the stories and the themes you favor.

Stuff

Some times I am not really sure what to post about, since I don’t make a lot of progress or the progress isn’t anything too interested, or worth sharing. Though I still want to post everyday, to make sure I am always staying focusin.

Well today I took a little break to finish a game I had gotten a while back, a hat in time. I was at the final level before, and I had been putting it off but I had a little free time so finished the game. It is a really super cute platformer game.

Hmm

I am wondering if I should to an update every week for my contest game, or if I should wait a little bit between them. Since there is going to be several in a row, not sure if that might be too often. Though if I do another short story each time, it might be okay.

Contest game

Still not sure which themes I was going to go with, but I think I might just try all of them. Maybe each substory will only focus on one or two of them, rather one or two sets of them, since I got each set up with opposites.

Anyway the first short story I am working on, is about a girl who finds a golden dildo and something pretty naughty happens next.

Contest Plans

So my goal is to spend some time working on my contest entry for tfgamesite. So all the other projects will be on hold for a bit, don’t worry though, I will be back to them! The contest is due in October, so that is the latest it will be before I get back to my other stuff.

The contest is storybook theme, that is supposed to be like a retelling of a classic. I am doing an Arabian Nights based game. Specifically, it will be using the framing story from Arabian Nights, slightly tweaked in which you been magically transformed into a girl and telling stories to the King in order to distract him. Rather than it being because he will kill after a night of sex, it is because you don’t want to sleep with him because obviously you are a guy!

As the story progresses in the framing story, you will explore your own transformation and trying to deal with it while telling the stories to the king. The gameplay will come from how you tell the stories, and the themes of those stories, which will effect what happens in the end.

I think each week, I will try to do one of the short stories being told by the player. Come October that will give a decent number of stories to form the game. Each story will have several choices and branch out but will be self contained. So it will be normal to run into ‘bad ending’ type situations where the player(taking on the role of the main character of the story) ends up stuck in permanent transformations and what not. Or maybe they will find treasure and become rich. It is the player choices that will determine if it is a tragic tale or a good one.

Update

So did an update for Magical girl contest. It isn’t that big of an update to be honest. I don’t know why but some times it is really easy to write a ton while other times it is kind of hard. So the update isn’t that big for it. Though I wrote like 90% of the Fuck You game in a single day.

If I could harness the ability to write that much and do it everyday, would get a lot more done. Well that is why I been testing out different methods to try to improve productivity.

Game

I am going to post the update for Magical Girl contest tomorrow. I could probably post it tonight and there is a lot of working time to still work on stuff tonight(since I always stay up late). I feel like taking my time working on it, instead of rushing and stressing out over it though.

A bit rusty

Since I knew I would have a lot of time to work this weekend, I didn’t do much earlier this week and the week before I didn’t get a ton done because of a lot of distractions. Which makes me feel a bit rusty now that I have more time.

Which goes back to making think that yeah, I really should be making sure to work on stuff every single day. Because if you are working every single day, then you get some stuff done even if you don’t feel motivated and since you are focusing on working there are more chances to feel very motivated and do a ton of stuff. But if you are not doing stuff it is easier to slack off and feel unmotivated, so even when you are doing stuff it doesn’t feel as if you are making as much progress.

So going forward, I definitely need to make sure I am getting some stuff done everyday of the week even if it is a bit hard some times.

Peaceful

It is kind of peaceful today with the family away, so no distractions. Didn’t get a ton of work done on magical girls but got a bunch of other stuff done I needed to get done. Tomorrow should be a good day though.

Hmm

So today I am taking it pretty easy, but tomorrow(thrusday) to monday I should be free of pretty much all distractions and have a completely open schedule so hopefully I can get a lot done. I don’t know if I will be able to work on games the entire day on those days but I will give it a try. I will probably end up working a bit, taking a break, working a bit and then taking a break and so on but I think I will be able to make progress.

If I got time I will work on planning my contest game as well. I have a basic idea of what I am going to do but there was a few different options I was considering. Basically there is going to be ‘themes’ that will influence your ending. So I need to decide on those. I had a few in mind but I wanted several that are complementary.

The themes I was thinking of were destiny vs free will, heroic victory vs tragedy, and then the third I wasn’t sure of. Maybe magic vs skill or masculinity vs femininity. Or greed vs charity. I was originally planning just doing three, then the ending might be based on a combination of those(based on which way it is leaning). Though maybe it would be more interesting to have more. There is too many combinations to use all at once, but it could be whichever are the strongest take priority.
