So my goal is to spend some time working on my contest entry for tfgamesite. So all the other projects will be on hold for a bit, don’t worry though, I will be back to them! The contest is due in October, so that is the latest it will be before I get back to my other stuff.
The contest is storybook theme, that is supposed to be like a retelling of a classic. I am doing an Arabian Nights based game. Specifically, it will be using the framing story from Arabian Nights, slightly tweaked in which you been magically transformed into a girl and telling stories to the King in order to distract him. Rather than it being because he will kill after a night of sex, it is because you don’t want to sleep with him because obviously you are a guy!
As the story progresses in the framing story, you will explore your own transformation and trying to deal with it while telling the stories to the king. The gameplay will come from how you tell the stories, and the themes of those stories, which will effect what happens in the end.
I think each week, I will try to do one of the short stories being told by the player. Come October that will give a decent number of stories to form the game. Each story will have several choices and branch out but will be self contained. So it will be normal to run into ‘bad ending’ type situations where the player(taking on the role of the main character of the story) ends up stuck in permanent transformations and what not. Or maybe they will find treasure and become rich. It is the player choices that will determine if it is a tragic tale or a good one.
